Hey Ottawa mixies – if you’re looking for plans on Friday, August 19th, make sure to go see Jeff Chiba Stearn’s “One Big Hapa Family“!

Location: Canadian Museum of Civilization – Japanese Film Festival

One Big Hapa Family description: After a realization at a family reunion, half Japanese-Canadian filmmaker, Jeff Chiba Stearns, embarks on a journey of self-discovery to find out why everyone in his Japanese-Canadian family married interracially after his grandparents’ generation. 

Event description: Bring a blanket and join us for a weekend of films under the stars, as the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival makes its first stop in the Nation’s Capital in support of our exhibition JAPAN: Tradition. Innovation. The Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is a unique showcase of contemporary Asian cinema and work from the Asian diaspora. As Canada’s largest Asian film festival, Reel Asian provides a public forum for Asian media artists and their work, and fuels the growing appreciation for Asian cinema in Canada. (8:30 p.m. – films begin)
